Why should you trim the undercoat of your pet dog?

The hair on the dog's abdomen (also known as the undercoat) is easily soiled when the dog lies down, urinates or breastfeeds, and often tangles, which can easily cause skin diseases and affect the appearance, so it must be cleaned. In addition, in dog shows, in order to facilitate the examiner to check the dog's genitals, confirm the dog's gender and judge the health status (whether the male dog has a single testicle), the undercoat also needs to be shaved.

How to shave the dog's undercoat

1. First comb the dog's undercoat and comb it open.

2. Hold the dog's two front legs with your left hand, lift it up, and make the dog stand up. If it is a large dog, you can make it lie on the grooming table.

3. The trimming of the undercoat varies according to the gender of the dog, but usually a 30# blade is used.

① Male dog: First, lift one hind leg to the height of the body, lower the head to be parallel to the dog's abdomen, and then start to shave the hair on both sides of the dog's genitals; then lift the two front legs of the dog up, let the dog stand on the hind legs, and use the electric clippers to shave from the root of the dog's hind legs to the second and third pairs of nipples from the bottom, forming an inverted "V" shape.

② Female dog: First, lift one of the dog's hind legs and push the hair along the angle of the crotch; then lift the two front legs of the dog up, let the dog stand on the hind legs, and use the electric clippers to shave from the root of the dog's hind legs to the third pair of nipples from the bottom, forming an inverted "U" shape.

Precautions for trimming the dog's belly hair

1. When shaving the belly hair with electric clippers, do not move too much or shave repeatedly, as this can easily cause allergies in dogs; if the dog is allergic, apply skin cream to the dog; if the dog is shaved lying down, do not shave too much on the side of its body.

2. If the dog refuses to cooperate with belly hair shaving, the correct method should be adopted; first, you should build up good self-confidence and have enough confidence in your own skills; second, you should have proficient operation skills and dog control skills; if you really can't do it yourself, you can take the dog to a pet beauty shop to let the barber shave.

3. Shave as quickly and accurately as possible. The dog's patience is limited and it will soon become irritable. If the dog is accidentally injured, it will not cooperate in the future.
